Sleeping News!

Sleeping has become a bit of a novelty around here over the past few months. One baby will be sleeping soundly...the other wakes...then EVERYONE is awake! Well last night, we decided to separate them (different rooms). Tommy slept from 9pm-6:30am! This is AMAZING!

While it was a huge milestone for Tommy, Mommy and Daddy still had to tend to Cole most of the night. He just can't seem to settle down lately. (I have a feeling that teething has something to do with it.) We may separate them until both are able to sleep through...then go back to them in the same room again. We'll see...things change on a day-to-day basis around here. =)

Here is a cute picture from yesterday. Happy Monday!

Helmet Heads

Today we took the boys to Children's Hospital in Boston to meet with Dr. Gary Rogers, a leading specialist in Craniofacial Anomalies. The boys have some head flattening...so our appointment today was to determine whether or not they would need "helmets" to help correct their condition.

Both boys have a form of torticollis, which is congenital tightening of the neck muscles that affects their range of head motion. They are currently in physical therapy and doing great! Obviously, the boys were in some cramped quarters in my belly. They were kind of stuck in one position which led to the muscles tightening. The head flattening also began at this point as they could not change positions.

This is not "typical" head flattening due to sleeping on their backs; however, is common with twins due to the tight quarters they shared before birth. It is important to treat the flattening now and ensure that the boys develop a normal round head. Which is why we went to the best!

So...in order to have perfectly round little noggins...my little men will be wearing corrective helmets 22 hours a day for 8 weeks. The boys won't feel a thing and from what we understand they adapt quickly to wearing them. People may wonder what the heck their wearing, but hey...we figure as the boys are already big...most people will just assume that they are early draft picks for the Pats! =)

Here are some pictures from today's fitting...it was NOT fun. They were very sad and both my mom and I had a hard time seeing them so upset. But luckily, they were able to scan their heads using a laser imaging machine rather than the usual method of making an actual *cast* of their heads using plaster. YAY technology!! The boys should have them within the next two weeks, so we'll post photos once we have them.

Little men of the WORLD!

Have passports -- will travel! Today is a big day as we're taking the boys to get their passports. If these guys are anything like their mom, they'll be stamp collectors. =)
Hmmm...where to first??

Happy Easter!!!

Today the boys and their cousins (Marcus, Nathan and Lucas) went to the mall to have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny. It was a big day! Cole and I had a big talk about it before we left.

Stay tuned for our Easter greetings!

The Great Sippy Cup Experiment!

I was sterilizing my bottles and realized there weren't any spares for the boys feeding, so thought perhaps the sippy cups were worth a shot. Tommy was a pro! Immediately he got the hang of it.

Cole on the other hand was a bit confused. In the end, he figured that his hands were MUCH easier to eat. =)

We're 5 months old today!!!

Today Cole and Tommy are officially 5 months old! Here are some milestones we've achieved...
  • They can sit up on their own for a short period of time and are getting stronger everyday.
  • Rolling over is on the horizon! Tommy actually rolled over for my mom this morning. Cole has rolled over too...but we haven't had a repeat yet. While they've yet to master it -- they both kick their legs and can "almost" do it.
  • They are great at holding toys and rattles and both of them love their exersaucers.
  • We've got two cuddlebugs! They love to tell you stories. When you sit with them independently, they'll chatter and tell you all sorts of great stories.
  • Both boys are really good eaters. They have 8oz bottles 4-5 times a day...and three meals.
  • We now have full size car seats and strollers as they've outgrown their infant carriers. (!!) At 5 months old they are wearing 9-12 months in most things. They are so long they just can't fit into feet jammies or things like that unless they are 9-12. For shirts and shorts, 6-9 months still fits. (Thank god...I have SO many outfits they haven't worn yet.)
  • It was really fun when they "discovered" each other. Now they are pals and chatter with each other in their cribs every morning.
  • Cole has become our thumbsucker...while Tommy is a blankie man. =)
  • The boys are sleeping about 4 to 5 hour stretches at night.
  • They LOVE to laugh and smile. We've got two happy boys!

It's hard to believe that they are 5 months...they are just growing so fast! The months ahead should be fun as they continue to hit new milestones and make new discoveries. Stay tuned to find out what happens next. =)

Cole the funny man!

Last night Cole and I were sitting on the couch. I began to suspect he was overtired. This was my first clue...

Our Afternoon Stroll

It was a beautiful day today, so I got the boys dressed, packed their "puppies" and we hit the road. It was our first time using the side-by-side stroller (thanks Pete and Carolyn!) and the boys loved it! They could sit up and see everything. Every once and awhile they would giggle and I'd have to stop and see what was so funny. I think they liked the wind in their faces.

Looking forward to more nice days like today so we can get out of the house and explore. Spring can't come soon enough!

Video -- Hanging out in our bouncy chairs

This video of the boys was taken last week -- you should see the way these guys beat on these chairs. This video is so tame. Usually their hands and feet are going like crazy - it's funny to watch.

You can see how big they are getting! The doctor said that they are over the 95th percentile in terms of height and weight. That means that they are larger than most babies their age. It also means that we've had to upgrade car seats and baby gear sooner than we thought we would. They have just about outgrown their baby carriers already!

Cole Rolls Over!!

Thank god I took this video...Cole did this a few weeks ago and hasn't done it since. No one would have believed me!
