Tickles the Bird

My aunt Judy stopped over the other day to see the boys. They were sleeping, so she left off some pretty cool presents. One of which is a mechanical caged song bird that sings and moves whenever it hears a noise. When the boys woke from their naps, I told them that a bird had flown into the house and wanted to live with us. They were SO excited. Immediately, Cole named him "Tickles" because his feathers tickled when he touched them. Well "Tickles" has become a part of our daily ritual... We go out to the sun room each morning to say hello...the other day they even tried to feed her a banana. :)

Thank you Aunt Judy! You have no idea how much they love it...and what a great diversion it is each morning. Hooray for Tickles!! Here is some cute video that I took of the boys on Saturday morning during their visit with Tickles the bird.

Fun with play-doh!

The boys LOVE their play-doh. We spend at least a hour every weekday making things. This week we used cookie cutters to make lizards and dinosaurs. For those family members that live far away, this video was cute enough to share. Gives you a glimpse into their little personalities. :)

My little firemen!

The boys are OBSESSED with fire trucks. So much so, that we have worn our fire hats every single day for a month. We only take them off for naps and bedtime...and even then...they must be within eye sight. They wear them to the store, to play dates, etc.

Figuring we should encourage their love of firetrucks, we came across a show called "Fireman Sam" on On Demand and starting watching it. BIG mistake. Each of the four episodes is only 11 minutes long and the boys insist on watching one after another - despite having seen them all 100 times. So that gives mommy about 9 minutes to do any task around the house before having to return to set up the next episode. Good times!

Today, we saw a firetruck on our way home from the store and the boys were SO excited. I was explaining to them how the firemen visit stores to make sure they are safe...just like we had watched on Fireman Sam. They were quiet for a moment, then Cole says in a very serious tone:

Cole: "Mom?"
Mom: "Yes?"
Cole: "Cole be a fireman."
Mom: "You want to be a fireman when you grow up?"
Cole: "Yes. Cole be a fireman."

So there you go! I've got two little firemen in the making. :)

What next?

It's a snow day. So far we've colored, made play-doh pancakes and birthday cakes, colored on our chalk wall, played hide and seek with our animals, took all our animals on a train ride with Thomas, turned off all the lights in the basement and used our flashlights on an "animal safari/bug hunt", played our musical instruments (mommy was on tambourine), put together our new basketball hoop and played basketball, played stuffed animal basketball, took the box from the basketball hoop and filled it up with everything we could find and we're now having a snack. I just looked at the clock. It is 10:55am. How is that even POSSIBLE?!?!? I was certain it was at least time for lunch!

Okay, on to the next task...

"No Corners!" Cole

When it comes to eating, both of the boys have their own little hang-ups. Tommy doesn't like any of his food touching and he eats very slowly, taking his time with each bite. Cole is the complete opposite and can't seem to get the food in fast enough! Recently, he decided that he doesn't like corners. "No corners!! Yuck!!" Where do they learn that? Anyway, the good news is that Tommy will happily eat Cole's corners, so if one slips on Cole's plate, he just gives it to his brother.

Speaking of food, the boys are eating us out of house and home. I simply can not get OVER how much food these two can eat in one sitting! We're just finishing breakfast. After a bowl of cheerios, 2 waffles and a cup of blueberries...they are asking me for more. Where is it all going? Good thing we have a BJ's Wholesale membership. :) Time to start buying in bulk.
